"Elementarz" by Marian Falski is a Polish children's first reader which a dear friend recently shared with me. It's the book she remembers best from her childhood. She said she used to spend hours just gazing at the illustrations instead of learning her Polish. And I can see why - the illustrations by Janusz Grabiański are just so beautiful. I love his rich colors and that you can see his brush work. So here are a couple of Grabiański for you to get lost in too. Aren't they the loveliest?

ReplyDeleteI grew up on a book of Andersen's fairy tales, illustrated by Grabianski, and the illustrations were, to me, an essential part of the magic. Googled around to see whether any of his work is online, which is how I ended up on this page.
ReplyDeleteHe was truly a master of creating magical atmosphere, and stimulating rather than replacing the imagination.
