grandpa sweaters

 

A couple of things I learned during this weekend's blizzard: 1) Although it certainly is not considered chic, nor intelligent to state-I enjoy television. I missed it, along with my heat. 2) Grandpa sweaters are warm and awesome. I love them and if I could choose one article of clothing as my favorite, it would be the grandpa cardigan- wool and with the elbow patches, please.

fair isle forever

To a lot of folks, it may just look too 80's preppy, but I can not get enough Fair Isle ( n. (Clothing & Fashion) an intricate multicoloured pattern knitted with Shetland wool into various garments, such as sweaters [named after one of the Shetland Islands where the pattern originated]- thefreedictionary).

From the simplest pattern to the craziest arrangement- it makes the perfect piece of winter garb. I love the bold color combos and the soft, cozy muted ones all the same....

Cora and her hats

There is nothing about Cora Crawley (Elizabeth McGovern) from Downton Abbey that I don't love....her elegance, beauty, and general savvy. I have a special appreciation for her hat collection, however, it makes me wish we still wore elaborate chapeaus today.

chambray, come my way

Whether I've missed the mark on this trend or not - I do not know nor do I care, but what I do know is that I am OBSESSED with finding myself the perfect chambray shirt. This, to me, appears to be nearly impossible since the ones I come across are too western, too preppy, too boxy, too soft, too 90s, or just too denimy (yeah, that's a problem). Seriously, why is this shirt so darn hard to find when it also seems to be virtually everywhere? My search goes on...

oxblood

It appears oxblood is one of the colors for Fall. It is a deep red that I think looks good on everyone.  Here is a trendy little wishlist of things out there in autumn's hottest hue.... (my favorite is the purse)

wedding gloves

I went to a college friend's wedding this weekend. Her bridal look was very classic and simply beautiful. It got me thinking about why some wedding fashion works all the time.
One bridal accessory I can always appreciate (if worn with the right ensemble)....gloves. They can be elegant or sassy, unique or traditional- they just add style always.

macaron color

 People...well, people who blog, seem drawn to the marriage of mint and coral colors. I suppose I am one of them because I am enamored of it, too. It is the macaron combination and it is hard to resist...

color wheel dressing

In one of my studio art classes in college, we spent weeks on the Munsell color system. I still have a lot of the projects relating to that class and, until very recently, also had the Munsell binder (which is a classic three ring job just filled with volumes of what resembles paint chips)- because all that color is just hypnotizing.
The color wheel has guided quite a few of my artistic endeavors since then and informed some of my clothing choices. Now I am no fashion plate, if I am being 100% honest, I flatlined in the fashion department long ago, but I always follow the rules of the color wheel.

snoods are cool

Apparently snoods are very 2009, or really very 1949- if you want to be historically accurate. They were originally like a hairnet to keep a long mane in check- now they have morphed into a luxurious knit tube, a lazy man's scarf/hood hybrid. Whatever they are- I like them.
Even if I am 3 years, or 63 years, behind the times.....I would not mind a beautiful, soft snood for these winter months.
